Vets insisted they weren’t heroes, but got royal treatment on Hero Flight

WASHINGTON, D.C. — They came from humble beginnings. They served their country proudly as members of the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force. Some saw action during World War II. Others didn’t leave the country or see the business end of a rifle.

“I am not a hero” was repeated in their humble way. They described instead someone who lost their life or performed a heroic act.
