State fair officials anxious to welcome guests to new site

Groundbreaking for six new buildings on Grand Island’s Fonner Park grounds started prior to the July 1, 2009 to create the next location for the Nebraska State Fair.

Only time will tell if the $42 million investment in the new fair site will pay off in attendance equal to or greater than what was seen at the State Fair in Lincoln in recent years.

Despite weather delays, officials of general contractor Sampson Construction have assured fair board members that the work will be finished in time.
