Homicide theories emerge at press conference

Posted June 19th, 2008

KEARNEY – The victim of Tuesday morning’s trailer house fire in Kearney might have died before fire engulfed her bedroom, authorities investigating the case said today (Thursday).
Police Chief Dan Lynch and Buffalo County Attorney Shawn Eatherton met with media late this afternoon to discuss details of the death of Kelcey Fike, which has been ruled a homicide.
Fike, 21, died Tuesday at her home at R-Villa South Trailer Court No. 58.
A fire engulfed her bedroom at 4:50 a.m., but Lynch said Fike could have died between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
“The information that we’ve received is the manor of death is consistent with a homicide and that’s the way we’re proceeding with the investigation,” Lynch said.
Lynch said investigators have several leads, but would not name any suspects.
“We are definitely looking for the assistance of the public with any information they might have,” Lynch said.
Anyone with information about Fike’s death is asked to contact the Kearney Police Department at 237-2104.
