I was talking to someone in Grand Island from here in Alaska yesterday evening when I heard thunder and we lost our connection…Today at noon, I found out that a tornado hit Kearney. Thanks to your online site, I was able to get the details…I still remember the tornado that hit GI and it’s a little scary, to say the least, that one hit Kearney. Thank heavens no one perished. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Thanks to EVERYONE that helped keep Kearney safe. Law enforcement, clean-up crews, the hospital, storm chasers, the fire department, the media, and the thousands of unsung “heroes” who pull together in disasters, but remain pulling together all the time. I was proud to call Kearney home for almost 40 years, and to see the damage that was done in such a short time is gut-wrenching. I now live in Arizona, but my sons are still in Kearney. I was sick with worry until I heard from them.

I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. Both my husband and I are native to the Kearney/Grand Island area and were so thankful to hear all of our family and friends are safe. I know the people of Kearney are strong and will work together as a community to take care of each other and rebuild. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Shane and Lisa Jardine

After hearing about the tornado on national news and contacting friends in Kearney, Devon and I are so relieved to hear that nobody was hurt. We still think of Kearney as our 2nd home even though we live in St. Louis. Go Lopers!

I lived in Kearney in the 1940’s. Kearney had such wonderful trees. So many of them have been destroyed. Our home was at 2109 Fifth Avenue. It had many windows that would not
withstand such winds. Would someone please let me know if it is damaged. Nothing on the web on the web looks familiar. Longfellow high school must have been demolished long ago. Is the statue still in the middle of Central and 30?? The map of Kearney on Google tells a lot about the town has grown. Good luck to all of you wonderful Nebraska people.
